Travel, Travel, Travel

Finally started our journey today! The first “day” was pretty long.

Our first flight was a little delayed taking off, so we only had five hours in Montreal. Only. We missed the entirety of Portugal – Morocco on television… why the airport wasn’t full of TVs playing the World Cup is beyond us.. but! we could listen to the majority of the game on the radio. The game wasn’t over when we took off, especially since we had to wait for de-icing. I don’t think we will miss this cold!

When we landed in Montreal we heard about the MASSIVE result! So now we have three of the participants in our games sorted: Argentina – Croatia and Morocco – England/France.

We didn’t have much time to wander through the airport because we had to find a TV to watch the next quarterfinal. At least Montreal had more TVs with the World Cup on it. We got to watch the whole England – France game!

And just our luck… when we sat down the gate was completely empty and had not yet been assigned to a flight… by halftime the gate was an Air France flight. So you can guess who everyone (plus the Québécois) were cheering for. Whenever France scored the bartender would run around the bar high-fiving everyone. At least Montreal was more into the World Cup!

And with that it’s time to hop on our next flight and head on to Europe! These semi finals (that we have tickets to) should be great!

Plus, I got a seat all to myself on this flight. Perfect to recline and sleep in!

Goodnight from somewhere high above land, or ocean, who knows at this point.

And in what seemed like too quick of a flight, it is good morning from Germany!

So… as you can tell… Germany is not Qatar. And the World Cup is in Qatar, so why did we go through the hassle of security twice to get into and out of the European Union only for about 5 hours? Well.. we had read about something really cool to see just beside the airport. So after doing some quick online searches, we were off. Started off badly because we couldn’t find the bus and our internet cut off as soon as we stepped outside of the airport. There was a lot of shuffling in and out of the airport trying to find the bus route that we needed and trying to look it up on our phone again. Pluuuuus… no one in the airport had ever heard of what we wanted to go see. Literally no one. We ended up asking about 10 different people at information desks, and no one had heard of the bus route that the internet told us to use or of the place we wanted to go. So after wasting about two hours and going from Terminal 2 to 1 and then 1 to 2, we gave up. So we went back inside and just walked around the airport. A long paragraph without us telling you what we wanted to show you! Maybe this way you can share in our pain, hehe.

The airport inside was pretty big and we just walked around a bunch. I think my travel partner went into each store about three times. Looking for what? No idea. Just passing the time I think. We did end up finding an art exhibit though.

This wall explained about the little statues and the artist behind them. But if you paid attention (and have A LOT of time) you will be able to find these all over the airport. A nice way to spend your time.

Well.. time to hop on another flight. We’re almost there!

It’s too bad we didn’t have this airline yesterday morning… they have LIVE World Cup games (and other sports) on the flight so that you don’t miss any of the important things in life!

And then we were off! This flight isn’t an overnight flight.. so we had to try to stay awake as much as possible (with little unplanned naps) so that we would arrive in the correct timezone as we were landing at 9 pm at our destination. At least we got to enjoy a nice sunset over Podgorica.
You would probably think that our destination was Qatar, but no, no. First actual stop on this trip was Kuwait!

So I look very happy here, and that’s because I don’t need a visa to enter Kuwait (or any country at all in this world), but the same can’t be said for my travel partner. He clearly did not pay enough attention to visa requirements and didn’t get one beforehand. So, you need to know a few things if you want to copy our trip. For the visa into Kuwait you get off your flight and likely turn left where you will see a visa office. Go in there, clearly. You have to photocopy your passport (free) and then fill out a visa request form (on the table right after the photocopier) and once that is done, get in line. It’s very simple (if you have a passport that allows for this easy process that is, there were a lot of people waiting that we got to skip). Then you pay the fee (3 KWD, about 10 USD), get your picture taken, and you’re done! Not too bad. You can also do this online, and don’t take my word for it, you should likely do more research than just this post. THEN, step outside of the airport and turn left for the official airport taxis. There are lots of people asking you if you need a taxi downtown, but there is only one place (that we know of) for official taxis, all well labelled. Outside you will see that they all have credentials and at the time of our trip (December 2022) the trip from the airport to downtown has a fixed price of 8 KWD (about 26 USD) plus you get an official receipt if you want one. And with that, you would think that we would go right to bed as it is now 11:30 pm in Kuwait. But no. Never. But you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. We have less than 24 hours in Kuwait, and we plan on using it to the best of our ability! Good night from Kuwait!
